AN IMPERSONATOR ALMOST RUINED MY CAREER-WIZKID

Popular hip-hop artiste, born Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has lauded the Lagos State Police
Command for arresting a 19-year-old fraudster who impersonated him and duped prospective clients abroad of large sums.
He noted he was elated that his image before his international clients had been redeemed.
It would be recalled that the police in Lagos had arrested the singer’s impersonator, Ifeoma Nelly, who defrauded many people of over $65,000, equivalent of about N12.9million.
She opened a Facebook account in Wizkid’s name and displayed the artiste’s picture. She initiates chats with friends on Facebook, pretending to be Wizkid.
Her arrest reportedly came after the singer complained to the police commissioner that someone had been impersonating him and collecting money for shows.
The police swung into action and the 19-year-old was apprehended.
Nelly is said to be a student of Industrial Chemistry at the Delta State University who was arrested through the combined efforts of Wizkid’s Manager, Mr. Sunday Are, policemen from Lagos and an Australian.
Commending the police, the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner on his social media handles stated, “I am very thankful to the Nigeria police for what they did for me. The case has been going on for a while now, I thank God we have been able to arrest one of the suspects.
“We would pursue this case to the court and ensure we get justice.
“The actions of these fraudsters have affected my business worldwide. I still have two cases pending in New York, United States now. There was a particular case of a $45,000 that was collected from a promoter in USA by these fraudsters using my name. There is another case of $25,000.
“I am happy my name is being cleared and I want justice.
“The situation has affected me psychologically because I was being accused of taking money I knew nothing about. The press also did not believe me so that dampened my morale,” the singer said.
