A beloved Atlanta TV news anchor died Wednesday, one day after suffering a massive stroke while waiting to board a flight.

Amanda Davis of CBS 46 was on her way to San Antonio to attend the funeral of her stepfather when she fell ill
at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to the Journal-Constitution.

"The CBS 46 news team is in shock," news director Steve Doerr told the newspaper. "No one saw this coming."

Davis, who was 62, had worked in TV news in Atlanta for more than a quarter century. She worked at WAGA for 26 years starting in 1986, when it was a CBS affiliate. It later became a Fox affiliate.

"Saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Atlanta news icon, Amanda Davis," Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed tweeted on Wednesday.

Keisha Lance Bottoms, the city's mayor-elect, also expressed her condolences on Twitter: "Such a beautiful person, inside & out."

Davis had talked publicly about her struggles with alcohol and depression after her third arrest on DUI charges. She did an in-depth series about her alcoholism last year.

"It’s totally wrong to drink and get behind the wheel," she told the Journal-Constitution in 2016.
