The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core was revealed today, just as the Galaxy Note 9 went on sale for the first time.
This J2 Core smartphone is meant to be the most entry-level point of smartphone for new users in the world,
bringing Android in just about the tiniest new touchscreen unit on the market today. It’s funny to think that only a few short years ago, a 5-inch display was considered pretty normal. Now it’s pretty much too small for most average users.
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core comes with a 5-inch display with TFT LCD technology. This display has 540 pixels across and 960 pixels down, which means, again, it’s very entry-level. The frontside camera on this smartphone is 5-megapixels (F2.2), and the backside camera is 8-megapixels (also F2.2). They’re basic, but they’ll get the job done when it comes to snapping photos for proof that you were, indeed, at that party you said you’d be at.
This smartphone has a Samsung-made Exynos 7570 system-on-chip inside with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage. There’s an accelerometer in this phone and a proximity sensor, and it’s able to work with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz), Bluetooth® v 4.2, USB 2.0, and several location services (GPS, Glonass, BeiDou*) *BeiDou coverage may be limited.
It’s able to play a bunch of different audio files: MP3, M4A, 3GA, AAC, OGG, OGA, WAV, WMA, AMR, FLAC, MID, MIDI, XMF, IMY. With the software it comes with, this smartphone can play several sorts of video files, too: MP4, M4V, 3GP, 3G2, WMV, WEBM. This phone is 143.4 x 72.1 x 8.9mm large and comes in at 154g heavy.
Normally this would be the part where I suggest whether you should consider a purchase – but I won’t. Especially since this device will be released primarily in Malaysia and India, starting on August 24th, 2018. When it does, it’ll be released with Android Oreo Go Edition – which is neat, but a little odd in that Samsung still has its own software overlay on top. We’ll know a price soon – until then, keep your options open!
