Kanye west worked with Adidas for Yeezy’s, Rihanna
collaborated with Puma for her shoe line, but Drake has definitely beat them
both by collaborating with your mum’s favourite store Clarks for his ‘Made in
England’ line of shoes.
We know that Drake is a huge fan of all things English,
after all, he loves the lingo and grime scene, as is evident on his recent
album More Life.
But this partnership with Clarks proves just how much he
loves British culture – recreating the classic Desert boot with a very Drake
twist on it as something your mum would be very proud of.
Drake is known for his safe fashion taste, he keeps it crisp
clean and avoids calamities in the style stakes, so it’s easy to see why he was
inspired by the famous British Desert Boots from Clarks that are a hit with
dads all across the land.
The collection is officially titled the OVO x Clarks Made in
England, and quite frankly the addition of the x is the only thing separating
Drake from going all out middle England and donning thermal vests from M&S
and buying slippers from Next.
He originally teased that something was coming over two
months ago, but it officially dropped yesterday (May 26).
Although this may seem like an unlikely pairing, there is a
surprisingly long history of hip-hop stars being huge fans of Clarks shoes.
The Desert Boot has long been a favourite of style conscious
men in Kingston, Jamaica, and artists such as Vybz Kartel, Popcaan and DJ
Assasian have championed it in their music.
Given that Drake borrows heavily from different musical
styles ranging from North American hip-hop, Spanish beats, British grime and
Jamaican dancehall, this latest venture with Clarks makes more sense.
