AT&T confirmed Wednesday night that some U.S. customers were experiencing outages nationwide.

According to CNET, website DownDetector.com, which monitors reports of outages in real time, showed issues with
service across the country including in Texas, New York, Florida and California. Issues began around 4 p.m. ET and by 6 p.m., more than 6,000 complaints had reported issues making phone calls or accessing the internet on their smartphones.

AT&T, which also owns DirecTV, confirmed trouble for "some users' ability to make certain wireless calls" after initial rumors suggested iPhone owners were the most affected.

"These users should restart their devices, which should resolve the issue," the wireless carrier said.

Engadget reports rebooting phones appeared to fix the issue for many customers, but some had to restart it several times.

"If you've experienced an issue when making wireless calls, please restart your device, this might be required multiple times- that should resolve the issue," the company said.

AT&T previously said it was aware of "wireless service issues" but has not said what caused the problems. The outages did not appear to be limited to any specific geographic area.

According to AppleInsider, older iPhones limited to 3G networks did not appear to be affected, and Wi-Fi calling was unaffected for all phones. Other wireless carriers did not appear to have issues.
DownDetector.com still showed some reports of connectivity issues Thursday morning, but most appeared to have been resolved.
