Willow Smith muses on morality, ancient biology, and love on “Romance,” the new single off her upcoming album The 1st.
Accompanied by an acoustic guitar,
Will and Jada’s daughter delivers impassionate vocals about tender moments and confusion.
“Morality doesn’t exist,” she sings. “It’s a construct we breed into children who see / We create our paradox, we create all our lives.”
But the evocative song also offers Willow’s take on social commentary. “I’m imagining a different history,” she sings. “Where man and woman stay equal / In the eyes of society / Where we don’t condemn different people / For exercising their freedom.”
Willow’s album The 1st, which follows December’s Mellifluous EP, arrives on Halloween, which also happens to be her 17th birthday.
Next up, she will hit the road with Jhené Aiko on “Trip (The Tour),” which is set to kick off Nov. 14 in Detroit.
